SAT Summer Prep TL;DR
The Best SAT Prep Starts with the Right Questions
Many students spend hours studying for the SAT but make one critical mistake: they fail to practice high quality, realistic SAT-style questions.
The SAT is a unique exam with its own style, language, and reasoning patterns. Early in preparation, the fastest gains often come simply from becoming familiar with how the College Board asks questions. When students no longer have to spend valuable time deciphering what a question is asking, they can focus on solving it. That is why we always focus our students’ attention on real SAT practice questions.
Data Drives Every Decision
Guessing what a student needs to study is inefficient. Nearly every SAT program should begin by having students complete an official Bluebook practice test—we usually recommend Practice Test #5 because it closely reflects the current Digital SAT without being the most difficult. The results give us real, recent data that identifies strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
Different Students Need Different Strategies
Students scoring around 1100–1250 typically benefit most from filling targeted content gaps while continuing to practice authentic SAT questions. Over an 8–12 week program, score improvements of 150–200 points are common.
Students already scoring near 1400 require a different approach. At that level, success comes from mastering the most challenging Module 2 questions, refining strategy, and eliminating small mistakes. Improvements are usually more modest but still meaningful—often 100–150 points over a similar timeline.
What a Boot Camp Can Do
A one-week SAT boot camp won't replace months of preparation, but it can establish effective practice habits, introduce proven test-taking strategies, and give students a roadmap for continued improvement. Good preparation isn't about doing more questions—it's about practicing the right questions in the right way.
